One of my favorite funny ladies, Jen Lancaster, has gotten serious on her blog, www.jennsylvania.com.
Jen is trying to help a family she knows find a home for their two pit bulls, Bella and Jackson. The family just moved to a nice neighborhood in Chicago and the neighbors freaked and are trying to get the dogs banned FOR NO GOOD REASON.
If anyone is willing to help, please write to Jen at jenwritesbooks@gmail.com. This is a terrible situation and just proves that PEOPLE ARE STUPID. Please go to Jen's blog to see a picture of the beautiful babies and get more info on how to help.

Something we all need to agree on.
Okay, I've ranted a little about Palin's daughter and her policy on sex education. But I do applaud her for standing up in front of the biggest old-white-man-club out there (the Republican party) and giving a hell of a speech. (Even though I would argue with her on most of what she said, she presented it nicely. :)!)
Still, here is and article that appeared on foxnews.com today (yes, Daddy, even I read that conservative crap!), and I really like the article.
The author, Susan Estrich, is a phenomenal woman who has had an astounding career, and I totally agree with her opinion in this article.
It shouldn't matter whether or not Sarah Palin is a woman or a mother. We should be treating her with the same amount of respect that every man gets when he runs for office. So let me make myself clear--I disagree with her political opinions, but not her decision to join McCain in this election. I question her logic on platform issues, I don't question her ability to be a mother and a wife and have a career. As a woman, I support her 100%.
Read the article and tell me what you think!

My point exactly.
Really good article from CNN.com on the same topic as my little rant from yesterday...
What do YOU think about teen pregnancy and our administrative policies on sex education??

Whoop-di-freakin-do.
Palin addressed teen pregnancy prevention in her 2006 run for governor, indicating on a questionnaire that she favored abstinence-until-marriage education over explicit sex education programs, school-based clinics and condom distribution in schools. The high school that Bristol Palin attended for part of last year, Wasilla High School, teaches abstinence in health class, its principal said.--The Boston Globe
Ummmmm....let's just say that class apparently didn't affect it's students. As for Bristol, you go ahead girl. If having this baby is your choice, you have it and you be proud. Screw everyone else. But I bet your Mama is gonna take another look at welfare benefits in her state......
As for your Mama....maybe you should your rethink abstinence-only education theory. Do I condone high schoolers running around having sex? No. Do I think we should stick our head in the sand and pretend it doesn't happen? No.
Nothing. I repeat, NOTHING, will stop your precious little angels from finding their way into a backseat unless they have their own particular conviction/moral/dilemma/confusion about sex. It doesn't matter what YOU as a parent believe is right, wrong, or indifferent (That is of course unless you brainwashed your child and sheltered them so much that they think vaginas have teeth). Kids are kids, and you prepare your kid for everything else in life, right? When you bought them a bicycle, you bought them a helmet. When you bought them a car, you bought one that dings like crazy until the seatbelt of every passenger is buckled. You bought them a cell phone with your number programmed under "ICE" (In Case of Emergency, dummies), you call the doctor over every bump, and you are probably one of those parents who ran out on the playing field/court when your baby fell down. But when it comes to one of the most important events in a persons life, most parents cower and say "Just don't do it! It's wrong!"
I'm not saying go buy your 16 year-old a pack of Trojans, but what I am saying is that parents have to be realistic. You can't wear blinders, and if you ever think that "It will never happen to my daughter", I hope you get hit by the trainwreck that is Jamie Lynn Spears.
Unwanted pregnancies among teens is something that is plaguing this country, and we cannot keep pretending that it's just the low-income people who "want more welfare benefits". Are you kidding????? Welfare benefits won't even buy a banana. More and more of these unwanted pregnancies are from the white upper/middle class because parents don't want to talk about it and the school sure isn't allowed to.
So actually, shame on you Governor Palin. If you really are the awesome parent that you and McCain want everyone to believe you are, then teach your kids, and the kids of your state, about safe sex.

'Bout dang time.
On August 28th, 1963, Martin Luther King Jr. delivered a speech that will forever impact America. And today, August 28th, 2008, Barack Obama will become the epitome of Mr. King's speech.
PEOPLE!!! I cannot explain to you how amazing it is to be living in this moment in America. For the first time in our country's incredible history, an African-American has a damn good chance at becoming president. This is absolutely one of the most exciting events I believe I will ever witness in my lifetime.
Obama's motto is "Change you can believe in", and even though I might be young and stupid and all that other crap that the conservatives in this state call people like me, I believe Obama. I think he is the right man for the job and I absolutely, 100% believe that he can make a difference and shatter all boundaries that have wreaked havoc on this nation. The notion that minorities and women are incapable are obviously bull, and I cannot WAIT for this man to get in office and tell all the middle-aged, white, male Republicans to shove it.
Not only that, but he truly is a smart man. He said last night that "change comes when ordinary people do extraordinary things", and I couldn't agree more. I think this is the prime opportunity for the progressive thinkers and movers of this nation to stand up and say "This is our guy."
Nonetheless, people are going to argue and say he's not the right man for the job. And if that's your stance, then well, this is America and good for you for at least paying attention. Lastly, people, you HAVE TO GO VOTE. If you are a woman in this country and you do not go vote you might as well go spit on Susan B. Anthony's grave. Millions of women fought for our right to do so, so do not take it for granted. And since you are going, you might as well vote for Obama. :-)

Uhealthy obsession.
Oh. My. God.
I have no clue how I have missed out on these books for so long, but let me tell you--if you have not started Stephenie Meyer's Twilight Saga you must go to amazon.com right now and order them for next day delivery. Then lock yourself in a room with a lamp, Cheese-itz, and 3 cans of Diet Coke. (Not that I did that....hmmm..)
Seriously, I do not stay up late, but I definitely saw 4a.m. last night due to a certain Edward Cullen. And Bella?? Holy cow. Love her too. I would totally turn blood-sucker for Edward.
But I'm not going to ruin it, read it yourself, then come tell me how much love it. Cause I know you will.
P.S. Lauren--I already ordered the 2nd and 3rd books. They will be here tomorrow :) And I preordered the 4th book, which is released on 08/02. I expect it on the 3rd!
